Black Girl Magic Spotlight

Hey guys!! So I decided to do something a little different for this week’s post. I’d like to start doing this regularly, so any feedback you have from this…please let me know πŸ™‚ But this week’s spotlight is on a beautiful boss!! Her name is VaShaun Mosby! She is the CEO and founder of VaShaun Nicole Enterprises and VaShaun Nicole Consulting. We got to sit and talk for a bit about herself, entrepreneurship and her company. Keep reading for more.

1. Tell me more about what you do and your company.

My name is VaShaun Mosby and I am the CEO and founder of VaShaunNicole Enterprises and VaShaun Nicole Consulting. We are a book publishing house, a social media marketing firm and I recently launched a staffing agency. Our target demophraph are young single mothers and felons.

2. What made you go into that?

It’s really interesting. I tell people, I wish I had a me, 19 years ago. The demographic that I help, I was. I remember needing help, needing certain things and tools and no one seemed to be able to reach me. I really target these young women because I understand and I relate because I sat there.

3. What would you tell someone who is too scared to go after their dreams?

I’m scared everyday. Do it afraid. Because you’ll never be comfortable. If you wait to be comfortable, you’ll never do it.

4. If you have a favorite scripture what is it?

Luke 1:45 – blessed is she that believes that there will be a performance. I believe everything that God tells me. I might not always understand, but I know that He’s never failed me. So I can rest in the fact that he always comes through and there is always a performance at the end.

5. What would you tell someone if they asked you, why are you a Christian ?

I remember, I think I was 13. My mom is a preacher. So I was 13 and I told my mom I’m quitting on God and I don’t believe in religion. My mom told me to tell her why I didn’t believe. The more that I studied, the more I believed. I ran for years. From 13-20, I did a lot. During that time it was proven time and time again if I didn’t have God, I wouldn’t be here right now. There were situations: shoot outs, drugs, you name it. I should’ve died and I didn’t. So, it lets me know that He did have a purpose and no matter how crazy I acted, He still wanted to use me.

6. How does it feel to be a black woman in a field dominated by Caucasian men?

I love it! In this field, you have to demand respect. Because they will push you aside and act like you don’t exist. Now I have to extend my voice and make my presence known to let you know, not only are you gonna listen to me, you’re gonna respect me and you’re gonna patronize my business. I’m here for it

7. Any advice you’d like to give someone who is thinking about becoming an entrepreneur?

Yes, don’t quit your job. It’s really interesting. People see entrepreneurs and glamorize it. Bills still need to be paid, responsibilities need to be taken care of. Sometimes you’re not going to feel like being the boss. Make sure you’re ready. Make sure you have money saved up and if not, make sure you have a job.

8. Are you an introvert or an extrovert ?

I am an ambivert. I can turn on and be like hey y’all and then you won’t hear from me for days. I disappear sometimes because I have to recharge again. I’m a little bit of both.

9. What’s on your playlist right now?

You know my playlist can be ratchet. I was just listening to Drake – Money in the grave, Lyfe Jennings – Cry and I miss you by Harold Melvin and the Blue notes.

Bonus: who is your favorite rapper?

Nas, Jay Z and I love Common. I love lyricism. I love lyrics, meaning and word play.

Overall…I absolutely loved the time I got to spend with Vashaun! She is so down to Earth and she’s full of wisdom and advice. She has used what the Lord has brought her through as a pathway to help others and I commend her for that! VaShaun, thank you so so much for sitting with me and sharing with everyone a little about your journey. Make sure to follow her on IG – @JustVashuan , Snapchat – @ImJustVashaun and her businesses Vashaun Nicole Enterprises and Vashaun Nicole Consulting.

Be on the look out for the next post…until then…deuces! πŸ’•
