What I’ve Learned Being Uncomfortable

This blog is a continuation of my post I wrote about being uncomfortable a few months ago (if you didn’t get to read it – check it out here.) I thought I’d share some of the things that I’m learning in this uncomfortable state that I’ve been in. Hopefully it encourages you!

1. Being uncomfortable is actually a good thing! – I say that, because comfort isn’t always a good thing. Personally, I know when I become comfortable, I get lazy and become stagnant. This constant state of being uncomfortable has caused me to keep moving and keep making adjustments. It’s kept me on my toes. I’ve been pushed closer to God during this time! I also feel like I’m growing, so overall, it’s a good thing! It may not feel great, but it’s for my good. As Romans 8:28 states, “And we know that God causes everything to work together for the good of those who love God and are called according to his purpose for them.”

2. Don’t resist the changes that are causing you to be uncomfortable. – I just got this little nugget yesterday . I’ve mentioned how I’m not a huge advocate of change (God is working on me in this area clearly lol.) Too much change at once can mess 👏🏾 me 👏🏾 up👏🏾! My pastor mentioned to us to be flexible – in life, ministry, etc. When he said it I was like, oh that’s easy! Then, literally the next day…BAM! I had to be flexible lol and I wasn’t the happiest person because I wasn’t expecting what was going on. Then, I felt God telling me, to stop resisting what He’s doing and to stop getting flustered everytime something happens. The current of my life is flowing in one direction and here I am, trying to swim against the current, causing more harm than good and not getting anywhere. So, I’m trying to stop fighting the things going on in my life and I’m gonna attempt to relax and trust the One who controls all things!

3. Pray, pray and pray some more! – Lawd! I can’t emphasize this point enough! This time of uncomfortability has me praying OFTEN! More than I usually do. I’ve revamped my prayer corner and the peace it brings is AMAZING! In times of being uncomfortable and uncertain , prayer brings peace. It brings reassurance. It brings comfort!! Knowing the creator of the universe hears my cries….does something to my soul. It gives me what I need to keep fighting, to keep pushing. It’s refreshing. It’s rejuvenating. It’s a source of life. I dare you to spend more time praying if you’re uncomfortable and you’ll understand what I’m talking about.

4. Let. Things. Go. – This point is self explanatory. But God has shown me on more than one occasion, I’m carrying things I shouldn’t be. Or I’m trying to do too much at once. Or I’m trying to fit in where I have no business fitting in. He is definitely showing me what I need to hold on to and what is weighing me down. And this is not only referring to physical things, but also mental things. I’m learning to let go of how I think about myself, others and different situations I’m going through. Hebrews 12:1 states, “Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a huge crowd of witnesses to the life of faith, let us strip off every weight that slows us down, especially the sin that so easily trips us up. And let us run with endurance the race God has set before us.” So God is currently helping me strip things off and let things go, so I can run this race more efficiently!!

Y’all I’m learning and growing!! 🙌🏾 lol Those are just a few of the things I’m learning during this season of life. If you’re uncomfortable or going through challenging times, I pray these little tips help you as they have helped me. Keep growing! Don’t quit! We’ll all be able to look back at this time and be thankful that we didn’t give up. I’m praying for you! Love you all!

What has Caught your Eye?

In a world where everything is calling for our attention, it is hard to stay focused on the task at hand. There are so many distractions going on around us, but today I want to discuss the negative distractions that cause us to become afraid and cause us to second guess every move we make.

On my last post, I talked about being uncomfortable (I’m still uncomfortable by the way – things have gotten worse it seems like lol and if you haven’t read that post, you can check it out here!) But anyway, I’ve been feeling overwhelmed a lot lately and the other day during my quiet time with God, I had to ask God how in the world did I get to this place? Why do I feel so overwhelmed and so exhausted? And God asked me, what have I been focusing on? And I realized then that I had been entertaining so much negativity and foolishness! I wasn’t being careful with what I watched and what I listened to. I was being over taken by social media, feelings of inadequacy and fear of many things. Then, God led me to read about good ol’ Peter walking on water.

Now, Peter was obedient and got off the boat and started walking on water towards Jesus. I applaud Peter for getting off the boat! That’s a huge step! 👏🏾 But this is where he gets in trouble, the Bible says, “But when he saw the wind, he was afraid, and beginning to sink he cried out, “Lord, save me.”” Matthew 14:30 ESV. HE SAW THE WIND! 🤔 I know you’re probably thinking, how can someone see the wind? I imagine Peter saw the effects of the storm he was in. He saw the trees being bent, the waves getting higher, the boat rocking. All of these things became his focus and he took his eyes off of the one who called him off the boat.

I can relate to Peter in this instance, because I too often take my eyes off of the one who has called me. I don’t realize I’ve taken my eyes off of Him until I get overwhelmed. No, I’m not perfect and struggle just like everyone else. I allow the world and my circumstances to become so much louder than God and what I know deep in my soul. So I begin to sink just like good ol Peter. But Jesus has never let me drown! 🙌🏾🏃🏾‍♀️ *quickens* The way Jesus responds is a whole nother blog post! But I encourage you to read what happens after verse 30.

I’ve said all of that just to simply say this: when we aren’t focused on THE ONE, it is easy for this world to drown us. Stay focused on God, your purpose and His Word! There is so much going on everyday! Now, I’m not saying ignore reality, but choose to keep God first. We can’t allow the wind to distract us from what God has called us to do. We must keep our eyes on Him and if we don’t, we can’t be surprised when we find ourselves sinking. Choose to see his strength and power as bigger than everything else around. Choose to ignore the lies in your head. Choose to speak positive when there is chaos going on. It’s a struggle and something I have to remind myself daily, so you’re not alone! But, it can be done and IT WILL BE DONE with the help of the Lord. Let’s stay focused on what God has called us to do, so we don’t drown. Make God and His Word bigger than your worries, your fears, your depression, your negative thoughts and whatever is bogging you down. Pray for me as I will pray for you!

Until next time! 💜 #TalksWithTasha

Help! I’m Uncomfortable!

Change can be either good or bad – it depends on how you look at it. What I’m learning in my life right now is, I’m not a big fan of change. I like having a routine, because it’s predictable. It seems safe. I like being prepared and knowing what I’m getting myself into. So, when change comes, especially an unexpected change, it throws me off guard. I have to learn how to adapt to changes and sometimes (alot of times if I may be honest), that sucks. But, God has shown me that it is in change, that we grow. And that growth can cause us to be uncomfortable.

I was texting a few friends this week and letting them know that I am just so uncomfortable! Like, where is my comfort?! I miss being comfortable. (The Holy Spirit just showed me how I’ve allowed what I “think” is comfortable to act as my refuge. When God is supposed to be my refuge. Whewwww #issaword 🏃🏾‍♀️🏃🏾‍♀️but, I digress.) Like I was saying, I’ve been extra uncomfortable lately, because I’ve been forced to do things I’m not used to. In the midst of my moaning and groaning, I got the vision of a snake shedding its skin. This led me to google to see how a snake sheds its skin. This is what popped up: (fun fact: I HATE SNAKES! Doing all of this research made me gag! But it’s worth it. Read below! 🐍🤢🙈)

THIS EXPLAINED WHY I FELT SO UNCOMFORTABLE! I am being stretched in order to grow. And just like a snake, I’m being put into hard situations to shed my old habits, my old way of thinking and my old nature. When I got this revelation I was like WOW 😳! I thank God for what He’s doing and for Him growing me. It feels absolutely terrible right now, but it is for my good. As Romans 8:28 states, “And we know that God causes everything to work together for the good of those who love God and are called according to his purpose for them.” So, if you are feeling uncomfortable, one…you are not alone! Embrace the changes and ask God to strengthen you through them. Some days, I do not want to be bothered! But, I know that’s not helping the growing process. Two, Get on one accord with what God is doing in your life. You can’t keep that dead skin with you no matter how hard you try, so LET 👏🏾 IT 👏🏾 GO! You can’t bring dead, old things with you to where God is taking you. It will only be a hinderance. It’s easier said than done, but with the help of God…it can and WILL be done! Let’s grow and go where God is taking us! #TalksWithTasha

Allow Me to Reintroduce Myself

🎶Allow me to reintroduce myself…my name is🎶 *cuts off music because this is not the place for that*. I know y’all know the song! Lol But anyway, have you ever felt like you need to reintroduce yourself and let people know who you REALLY are? Maybe people have known you, but do they know the REAL you? Are you sick of wearing a mask? Trying to blend in to keep the peace? I don’t know about you, but I am! I’m done. So here I go…allow me to reintroduce myself *clears throat loudly*…

Hello everyone! 👋🏾 My name is Natasha! People call me Tasha, Tash, Natasha, and that’s about it. Lol But, the first thing I want you to know about me is, I love Jesus! Like ALOT! Like a whole bunch! You may want to say I’m a Jesus freak, I’m holier than thou, churchy, or what have you, but loving Jesus is part of who I am and what makes me…me! I also want you to know that I am human. I am quiet to an extent and I laugh quite a bit and I am also pretty goofy on the regular. I am not perfect and I have flaws like everyone else. I’ve made a plethora of mistakes in my life and I’m bound to make more. I don’t think I’m perfect, nor do I aspire to be. I have my struggles and weaknesses just like you. I’m also not my mistakes. I’m not my past and I’m not who I used to be. I’m not what I used to do. I’ve been made new in Christ! The scripture says, “This means that anyone who belongs to Christ has become a new person. The old life is gone; a new life has begun!” (2 Corinthians 5:17 NLT). I am embracing the real me and letting the cards fall as they may. I have my beliefs and you may disagree with them at times, but ohhh well. My Christian journey hasn’t been easy, but where I am now, I can tell you it has been worth it.

Life is too short to walk around aimlessly and not embrace who God has called me to be. It’s too short to be scared to be different. It’s too short to be anyone but myself! The same goes for you! You are chosen. You are royalty. You are unique. You are set apart. You are the child of the King of Kings. You are powerful beyond measure. Be YOU and do it unashamed! Let people say what they want and walk with your head high. It’s time for us to reintroduce ourselves to the world! Our time is now. Put off who the world says you are and embrace who you really are. Don’t let people tell you who you are, you let them know! Reintroduce yourself!

#TalkTime – What is a common misconception people make about you? Reintroduce yourself and let them know who you really are!

I truly pray they have blessed you in one way or another. I wish you all a happy new year and I pray it is YOUR BEST YEAR YET! ❤️

How to be Grateful during the Holidaze!

The holiday season is supposed to be a time full of joy and holiday cheer! It’s supposed to be a beautiful time filled with love as we celebrate the birth of Jesus! But let’s be real, it can also suck! If you’ve been through a lot this year it can be tough. If you’ve lost a loved one, away from family or going through a heartbreaking situation, then this season may not be the best. But A Beaute’s Tale and myself have come together with 4 ways to be grateful during this time!

1. Stop Focusing on Yourself! Stop putting your attention on what you don’t have and who isn’t around. And enjoy what you do have! Enjoy the fact that you have a job, you have family and friends, you have a sane mind, you have a home and a warm bed to sleep in. Be grateful for the little things! Remember things could always be worse.

2. Give! – Give gifts! If you can’t afford it, pass out cards. Or just give your time. Spend time with others who may feel alone this season. Spend time with the elderly in nursing homes or with those in hospitals. Don’t take for granted the time you have with family and friends during this time. They could be here today and gone tomorrow. And you are where you are right now for a reason! Appreciate it!

3. Be Selfless but be Selfish too!! Don’t forget about you!!! Take care of YOU. in all that you do this holiday season, don’t be broke $$ and broken because you’re busy funding someone else’s smile. The back burner was never meant for you. Use this holiday and close of the year to organize and readjust the pots you have burning (what you’re giving and who you’re giving it to). Be Selfless in your approach to give, but selfish and remember that you don’t always have to give your part away. Bless others but Invest in You this year as well

Be Selfless and Selfish Effortlessly.

4. Agree to Disagree!

Agree that some of the plans you made to reach success this year didn’t happen or didnt work but disagree with the mindset that just bc the year is over, your dreams ends. Issa lie. Strategize and Try Again. The best gift you can give to yourself this year is the attitude that although things may not have worked out the way you planned, you may have not kept your resolutions, you broke promises you made, you’ve spent unnecessary money on unnecessary things and although you may not be where you want to be….let this year’s gift to you be that: YOU HAVEN’T GIVEN UP!!!! It’s been hard, it’s trash, it’s been triflin,

but youre still in and there’s STILL TIME TO MAKE IT!!! Breathe and try again.

I Don’t Understand!

The world can be an ugly place. It can suck. Absolutely suck! There’s people dying, diseases and cancer seem to be EVERYWHERE and it feels like everyday is just getting worse! Terror attacks, threats of war, and chaos is just breaking out world wide. The ugly truth is that the world is dying and things aren’t going to get better any time soon. Things are actually going to get worse. A lot worse!

Things don’t always work out the way we want them to or the way we planned. We can plan for things days, months, even years in advance and no matter how hard we plan, things may still go wrong. Life is full of ups and downs. I’ve had my own share of valleys to walk through and I’ve witnessed others go through some pretty tough times as well. Nobody’s life is perfect no matter what it may appear to be. We all struggle. We all cry. We all break down every once in awhile. It’s just a part of this thing called life. Things happen unexpectedly and it hurts. Even when things that we expect to happen happen, it can be devastating. I can talk until I’m blue in the face, but it won’t change the heartache you’ve felt or that you’re feeling. So many things happen that may feel unfair. You may question God and wonder how He could allow such pain to exist.

I may not understand everything. I may not understand cancer, childhood deaths and terrorist attacks.  But I am SURE of a few things! I am sure that there is a God, who is the same yesterday, today and forever. I am sure that God will never leave nor forsake me. I am sure that God is my strength and my provider. He is my way maker and He is the lifter of my head. He is the ULTIMATE comforter. And I am sure that with Him, we will be okay. “And we know that God causes everything to work together for the good of those who love God and are called according to his purpose for them.”‭‭ Romans‬ ‭8:28‬. There may be plenty of things wrong with the world, but we can rest assured knowing God is STILL and ALWAYS will be in control. Take a deep breathe, know who holds your life in His hands and relax. It’ll all be okay.

A Letter to My Future Self

As I sit here, one day before my birthday, I can’t help but to think about all the things I have experienced this past year and to think about what lies ahead. As chapter 25 comes to a close, I decided to write a letter to my 26 year old self. It reads as follows:

Dear twenty-six year old me,
Hey girl hey! Welcome to chapter 26! You’ve made it a LONGGGG way! There were a ton of things that happened along the way that tried to stop you and derail you from this moment, but by God’s grace, mercy and protection you are now 26. It’s a new chapter! A new day! A new year! It is full of hope and possibilities. Chapter 25 wasn’t too bad! If you begin to fear what is ahead, take a step back and remember all you have accomplished and survived. There were days when the world counted you out and you even counted yourself out,  but did you quit? No! Do you remember the times when life became so overwhelming all you could do was cry? Did things get better? Yes! Do you remember that time you were afraid to go to the movies or out to eat alone? Does it bother you anymore? No! Do you remember that time you went zip lining and looked your fear of heights in the face? Idk if we can do that again, but you get the point. You tackled ALL of those moments this year! Look at you! When you didn’t think you could keep going, God picked you up and carried you until you were strong again. When you thought life was over, you kept living. One thing chapter 25 taught you, is GOD IS NOT DONE and nothing is too hard for Him. The growth that has taken place this year is so beautiful! Who would have thought you’d have a blog?! I sure didn’t see that coming. And… this is only the beginning. 💫

As chapter 26 starts, follow God. Keep Him first EVERY step of the way! Following Him this past year has taken you places, you never imagined! God has so much in store for you in this next chapter and you will receive it all! Don’t let what feels comfortable or familiar, hold you back. God is taking you to uncharted territory designated just for you and with Him leading you, you are safe no matter what. Things won’t always be easy, you’re gonna cry (you’re older, but still sensitive lol), but it will all be worth it! Remember, every battle is not yours! God has gone ahead of you and made the crooked paths straight, it’s up to you to take the steps He gives you in faith. Keep your head up, remember your worth, keep your crown on and stay prayed up  and chapter 26 will be the best year yet. So many promises will manifest this year for you. You will  continue to grow into the woman God has called you to be. Lastly, “Delight yourself also in the LORD, And He shall give you the desires of your heart.” (Psalm 37:4). God’s gone before you and your time is now to walk in all He has for you.

The old you 🌹

Don’t Quit! Keep Fighting

Life. It has its highs and it has its lows. There are really, REALLY good times! Then there are really, REALLY terrible times. Life can knock the wind right out of you! Everything could be going great and then WHAM! Life deals you an upper cut that you were not prepared for. Then, you find yourself lying on the ground. But you tell yourself, I got this! So, you dust your shoulders off and get up. Then, you deliver a couple blows back, you show life who you really are and you start feeling yourself like Rocky! Then, outta nowhere life hits you square in your chest. Your world starts spinning. You can’t catch your breath. Now you’re down for the count. The ref comes cover and starts counting. 1…..2….. this is when you choose. You have a choice to make. Right here and right now. You can choose to get up and fight or you can choose to lay down and let the hard times of life win. Yea, that last punch you took hurt. You don’t think you’ll be able to make it much longer. But, you can! And you will!

Some days are absolutely rough!! And it’s okay to NOT be okay. You may not want to get out of bed. You may not want to eat. You may not want to shower. But there is a brighter day ahead. You have to rise. You must get up!! The future is calling your name. You’re feeling so much pressure to quit now, because your future is THAT BRIGHT!! You didn’t come this far to give up now, did you?

Today choose to fight! Choose to keep fighting. You may lose some days. You may lose some battles. But don’t forfeit the war!! Don’t wave the white flag. Live to fight another day. Count the small victories, such as getting out of bed when you didn’t want to. Eating when you didn’t want to. Going to work when you didn’t want to. Keep going forward. Keep getting up. Keep fighting. You are so close to seeing the sun shine again. SO CLOSE! Tell God you need Him to intervene and pray that He’ll strengthen you. Things may not immediately get better, but you’ll be stronger through Him (Phil 4:13). Spoiler alert: you win this battle. The only way you lose, is if you quit. So don’t quit! Let God fight this battle and be the victor that you are! You can do it!
